Professor Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the most prestigious honor for a scholar in the United States. She joins a distinguished roster of intellectuals, scientists, and artists.

Since its founding in 1780, the American Academy has served the nation as a champion of scholarship, civil dialogue, and useful knowledge. The Academy’s purpose is “to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.”

Professor Kirshenblatt-Gimblett also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Haifa and was invited to serve a three-year term as a judge for the European Museum of the Year Award.
