Halina Paszkowska z”l (1927-2017)

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Halina Paszkowska passed away on Sunday, March 26, at the age of eighty-nine.

Halina was an incredible person. She was a Holocaust survivor and had taken part in the Warsaw Uprising.

After the war, throughout the 55 years of her career, from 1952 to 2007, she was actively involved in Polish cinematography; she produced the soundtrack for over 200 documentary films and about 20 feature films, as well as several editions of Polska Kronika Filmowa (Polish Film Chronicle). Halina worked with Andrzej Munk, Roman Polanski, Jerzy Hoffman, and many other outstanding filmmakers. In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Halina was honored with the Association of Polish Filmmakers Prize for the entirety of her artistic achievements (2010) and the Golden Cross of Merit, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and the Insurgent Cross.

Halina was an extraordinarily humble and generous person. Her strength of spirit is an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed.

The funeral ceremony will begin on Friday, March 31, at noon, at the Pre-burial House in the Military Cemetery in Powązki in Warsaw (ul. Powązkowska 43/45).

Halina is survived by her beloved husband, Marian Turski, Vice-Chairman of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland and Chairman of the Museum Council for POLIN Museum. It is the family’s wish that instead of bringing flowers, mourners make a donation to the Ringelblum Archive. Payments can be made to the account of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute in Poland (Stowarzyszenie Żydowski Instytut Historyczny w Polsce): 87 1240 6247 1111 0000 4975 6324 (payment title: “Ringelblum Archive. Halina Paszkowska In Memoriam”).

May her memory be a blessing.
