Marek Edelman, the last surviving leader of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, would lay yellow daffodils at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes each year on April 19, the anniversary of the outbreak of the uprising. Edelman was tireless in his promotion of democratic values and tolerance in postwar Poland.
Inspired by Marek Edelman, POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland began organizing the Daffodil Campaign in 2013. Each year hundreds of volunteers in Poland and abroad hand out paper daffodils in memory of those who fought in the uprising in 1943.
